Robert Darlington (guitar, vocals)
Robert Darlington started playing the guitar in 1963, and had his first band in 1964, playing primarily Beatles songs. He saw the Beatles live, twice, with future Translator member Steve Barton also at the same two shows. He began writing songs and poetry at a young age, and first published poetry in 1979, shortly before joining Translator, who were, at that time, a trio. Not only was Robert able to write and record his songs with Translator, he also took the cover photo for their Break Down Barriers EP, and the cover photo for their fourth LP, Evening of the Harvest. A martial artist since 1966, Robert has a black belt in Aikido, and he has taught Aikido, Taiji, and Qigong. He is a certified massage therapist and a certified hypnotist, as well.
In 2011, Robert recorded PRISM, an EP of his original songs, produced and engineered by J. Robbins, featuring Steve Barton on two songs. In 2018, he started his own publishing house, Dragon Turtle Books, and he has published nine books of his own poetry and photography, to date. A native of Los Angeles, he currently lives in Maryland.
