Steve Barton (guitar, vocals)
Steve started his first band at the tender age of 11 as a drummer. The Present Tense did record two of his original songs for a single, "Lost" and "Illusions," produced by Mike Curb, but it was never released due to the objections of another band member's lawyer dad! When the band split up, Steve got his first publishing deal with ABC/Dunhill; at 14 he was the youngest songwriter they'd ever signed. By now he'd switched to guitar to concentrate more on songwriting and after playing around LA with various bands and friends he eventually ran into Dave Scheff. The two musical minds melded and they decided to start a band focusing on Steve's songs. They soon convinced Dave's college chum, Larry Dekker, to leave the Bay Area for LA. Robert Darlington came aboard after seeing them play many times. The rest is history...that band was Translator, who soon left for SF.
Steve continues to be a prolific songwriter, releasing eight8 solo albums to critical acclaim so far. Several of these include Dave Scheff on drums; Larry and Robert also appear on some tracks. These old days you'll find him in Portland, Oregon with his wife, whom he met in San Francisco in December, 1980.
